‘Disaster’ strikes for MMA
Newly elected CEO, Jason Brown, along with the new president of MMA South Africa, Raymond Phillips have set about restructuring the federation to include new role-players within its executive structures.
The South Coast’s very own mixed martial arts (MMA) champion, Nkosi ‘Disaster’ Doyisa has been selected by MMA South Africa to form part of a newly established working subcommittee, known as the Amateur Athlete’s Representative Subcommittee.
The six selected athletes are representatives from different levels of the sport, as well as from different communities and backgrounds.

“This is a big opportunity for me, it’s something I wasn’t really expecting because certain criteria were used when picking individuals for this type of responsibility. To have my name amongst the selected six representatives is mind-blowing. I’m looking to live up to the task and try outdo myself,” he said.
Newly elected CEO, Jason Brown, along with the new president of MMA South Africa, Raymond Phillips have set about restructuring the federation to include new role-players within its executive structures.
Athlete nominations were mostly put forward by the Promoters Commission and the Amateur MMA Subcommittee.
It’s anticipated that each of the selected athletes can provide different insights on the development of the sport throughout the country.

Together they will be able to assist their peers in matters or concerns athletes have with the sport of MMA.
“We have ensured the committee is as diverse as our MMA community is so that the word peers doesn’t just relate to elite athletes or SA Champs but from grassroots up,” said Brown.
“As one of the fastest growing sports we often find recreational clients lack a voice within the structures of MMA and this committee will be able to address issues and concerns from the new client beginning in the sport as they follow the progression pathway to the professional athlete,” he added.
The new subcommittee will allow all MMA athletes to approach the committee directly, or the federation may task subcommittee reps to tackle a particular issue or concern, allowing subcommittee members to give their input to the board.
“Being entrusted with this task with phenomenal individuals is exciting, as these are guys who have really put in the work and are leading the sport in all dimensions. It’s going to be a beautiful journey and, most importantly, I’m looking forward to seeing the sport grow and give opportunities to people from all corners of the country,” said Doyisa.
