Donald and Lesley take medal honours

Riek reportedly was on fire on the front nine, just one over par on the 8th before an emergency call from work pulled him down to earth.

A nett 69 for Donald Bradshaw and an outstanding nett 68 (five better than ladies’ par) for Lesley Fraser, saw them take the glassware in the February medal competition at Umkomaas Golf Club last week.

In the A division, Russell Cumming won on 32 points, counting out John Webster.

B division winner was Neil de Villiers whose 37 points counted out Bruce Sutcliffe.

When it came to the C division Donald Bradshaw was a clear (and overall) winner on 36 points, with runner-up Bing Opie making 35 points.

D division honours went to Nigel Hensen on 27 points, from Ken Koster on 26 points.

It seems the horrendous humidity was no match for the excellent course conditions given the exceptional betterball scores posted by many in Saturday’s field.

Winning on an unbelievable 49 points were Patrick Ndlovu and Riek Jansen van Rensburg.

Riek reportedly was on fire on the front nine, just one over par on the 8th before an emergency call from work pulled him down to earth.

Luckily, his partner picked up the slack and played very well on the back nine.

In second place on an equally impressive 48 points were husband and wife duo Russel and Evija McKelvey.

Third and fourth place were decided by count out on 46 points with Bruce Sutcliffe and new member Brian Kassel pipping the two Daves – Sheppard and Robertson.

The Fourball Alliance was contested in windy conditions on January 23 and the low alliance scores posted proved that things were tough for most.

The winners, on just 88 points, were Ken Koster, Pete Vermaak, Rex Parsons, and B Stephens.

Originally a 3-ball, Devlyn Fraser, Natalie Singer and Chris Coxell managed to put together 75 points, but a friendly ‘ghost’ (in the form of Francois Rossouw) who had a great day on the course helped to boost their score to 86 points, enough to take second place.

Brothers Graham and Chris Coxell, dovetailed perfectly to score +8, taking first place in Saturday 30th’s Bonus Bogey.
