International Shootout triumph for Team Sweden
The Swallows love to play in the annual International Shootout
Southbroom Golf Club‘s many international visitors, nicknamed the Swallows, love to play in the annual International Shootout, sponsored by Colin McKay of Applied Outsourcing.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many could not make it this year.
Some phoned from the colder climes of places like Germany, Switzerland and Ireland to find out how things were going and wishing they could have been there.
Those that were – and there more than enough to give it a proper international flavour – experienced two days of weather so hot even the locals longed for some snow.
It was so humid and sticky that some regular golf ‘addicts’ opted for the couch-aircon combo and/or swimming pool.
The course was set up beautifully, as was the clubhouse, with flags fluttering in the fresh north-easterly wind that made the opening tee shot that much easier.
In the end, Team Sweden won for the first time, with a strong finish on day two and helped by the countout. They scored 170 points.
Team captain Christer Solgevik reckoned the secret to their success was playing Abba songs. Yes, he was joking.
The Morgens were counted out into second place.

The Alley Cats led after the first day, but needed a 10th life the next day and had to settle for third, tied with past champions AfroScots.
