Kemp, Bezencon make putting look easy
The combined Stableford competition was won on a count-out
As we enjoyed the final competition before the new handicapping system kicks in, the leaderboard contained excellent scores once again.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the adoption of the limited percentage for handicaps during team competition affects the scoreboard.
The combined Stableford competition was won on a count-out, with the first and second teams both scoring a better-than-handicap 74 points.
Edging out their competition were Dave Kemp and Mark Bezencon.
Playing behind them, it was clear from the antics on the green that their putters were hot!
Second place went to Neil de Villiers and new member Brian Kassel, also on 74 points.
In third place, on a very respectable 70 points were Robbie Matthias and Jacques Kirstein, followed by Peter Toward and Lesa Vergottini who amassed 69 points.
Lesa’s great day was evident as she made 10 points on the jackpot holes to take the jackpot prize.
Neil de Villiers was the only one in the 40-strong field who managed to sink a birdie putt on a short, taking the entire 2-Club pot for himself.
Best of luck to our ladies, Sabiha Hulley and Natalie Singer who will compete in the KZN Ladies Champs’ Gold and Silver divisions respectively next Sunday.
The 36-hole strokeplay event takes place at Victoria CC this Sunday (7th), with the matchplay to following on Monday and Tuesday.
