Dam good time for Scottburgh’s weed removing golfers

St Patrick's Day last Wednesday was a well turned out affair and thanks go to Tony 'Paddy' Power for his sponsorship.

It’s been quite an eventful week at Scottburgh Golf Club as the dams on the 12th and 13th were cleared of the invasive weeds – thanks to all who helped.

Captain Bob Hall is up and hobbling about, vice-captain Coenie is playing golf again and Joe Verster is recuperating at home, getting spoiled by Cheryl.

Friday night saw the ‘Scottburgh’s Got talent’ fun evening.

I didn’t know we had such a veriety of good musical townsfolk. A great evening and all wrapped up before ‘pumpkin’ time.

St Patrick’s Day last Wednesday was a well turned out affair and thanks go to Tony ‘Paddy’ Power for his sponsorship.

Making everybody green with envy were Hilton McAuliffe and Cobus Booysen, who were drawn together, and totalled 65 points, counting out Linda Hall and Alan Hawkins on the same score, with the two Tonys – Kennedy and Power – making third with 64.

After Friday night’s shenanigans it was down to business on Saturday.

The ladies played a threeball alliance and winning with a score of 65 were Linda Hall, Mandy Jones and Debbie du Toit.

One point further back were Pathma Moodley and the Holloway girls, Nicky and Terri.

It was also nice to see Di Pithey and husband Stuart down for the weekend.

The men played the March monthly medal with the greens in superb condition.

Winning the A division gross was Herman Roetz on 82 followed by Barry Kisten winning the nett on 75.

Deanne Jooste didn’t lose a ball for a change and took the B division gross with 85, with in form Tony Kennedy winning the nett on 66.

The C division gross went to Willie Creaney with 37 points and Denis Brown had 33 for second place.

Flyer’s footnote: Golf is an open exhibition of overweening ambition, courage deflated by stupidity, skill soured by a whiff of arrogance, it’s these humiliations which are the essence of the game.
