Low handicappers in mix again

Non-members are welcome at a small fee for the year.

High winds or handicap allowances? Seems it’s the lower handicappers’ turn to come in the prizes

Not sure whether the 35km per hour winds, or the recent handicap allowance reduction rules, or both were the cause but, for the first time in ages, it seems that the lower handicapper golfers got a turn at the prizewinners’ table.

First, second and third place Alliance League winners this week were teams made up of lower handicap golfers and so it seems that perhaps there is some method in the madness of reducing handicaps for team events to level the playing fields.

In first place were Sabiha and Jacques Hulley, Riek Jansen van Rensburg, and Mickey Eriksen who counted out the Par Patrol (Devlyn Fraser, Norman Mackay, John Webster, and Leon Brummer) on 82 points.

Third place, on 80 points was Ocean Wave (Mike Dennison, Mike Madsen, Steven Oliver, and Francois van Wyk).

The putting surface received many compliments and judging from the numerous two-clubs the greens are in great nick!

Sabiha Hulley played a blinder and bagged the Jackpot with 11 points, five of which came courtesy of an 80m pitch in for eagle on the par five sixth hole.

Following the announcement by the Minister of Education allowing the resumption of extracurricular activities, we’re excited to confirm that KidzGolf will resume on the first Saturday of next term, May 8.

The lessons, conducted by EGTF qualified golf coach Devlyn Fraser, held between 8am and 9am each Saturday morning, are offered at no cost to the children and grandchildren of Umkomaas Golf Club.

Non-members are welcome at a small fee for the year.

It is not necessary to have your own equipment as clubs and balls are provided, although those who are already kitted out are welcome to bring their clubs along.

Girls and boys are welcome but should be at least eight years old.
