Shange’s endless grit

Thubalethu will be joined by first time competitor, Siphelele Cele, from Izingolweni who will be looking forward to what is certain to be a learning experience of note.

Thubalethu Shange, who recently turned 30, will be tackling the single stage MTB Munga Cape Grit, which starts this Friday (9th).

The race takes starts in Ceres in the Western Cape and will see the Ndlovuzulu cyclist aim to conquer 500km through the Tankwa Karoo in 50 hours.

Thubalethu Shange is ready to take on the Munga Grit MTB race this weekend.

“The event will be about finding myself and testing my limits, not necessarily winning,” said Shange.

For him, race preparation has been intense, especially on a psychological level, after surviving two car accidents in the last three months.

In addition, while competing in the Bloemfontein to Cape Town Munga MTB race, he was forced to retire due to mechanical failure at the 315km mark, with some 700km still to go.

This time around he is looking to make a name for himself and represent the South Coast to the best of his ability.

“I’m grateful to my sponsors, San Lameer and Bobby’s Cycles and aim to make them proud. I know they will be rooting for me as they can track me live on themunga website,” he said.

Thubalethu will be joined by first time competitor, Siphelele Cele, from Izingolweni who will be looking forward to what is certain to be a learning experience of note.

“I am excited to enter this competition and to get an opportunity to compete on a stage like this,” Cele said.
