Ready to roar at golf day
A combined Stableford with a ghost for a partner was played last Wednesday.
Easter is now over and many of the northerners have gone back to prepare themselves for winter.
The many who played at Scottburgh Golf Club were full of praise for the vast improvements to the course since they were last here – many over a year ago.
A combined Stableford with a ghost for a partner was played last Wednesday.
Roly Tickle drew Graham Brown and together they amassed 66 points for a fine win.
Tony Power got Wayne Simpson and their 59 was good enough for second with Brian Richards and Mike Bremner finishing off the podium places with 54.
Roly also unearthed the hidden holes and oddly there were no 2-clubs.
Willy Creaney and Mike Hogan also got a mention but only to claim Stone Last.
Pete Gilliver won the Friday afternoon 9-hole chicken run with 19 points.
Later that night the club held a tapas evening with a Mexican theme, music was by Gareth and Kat and a great time was enjoyed by all.
More of these theme type evenings are being planned so watch out on the notice board and the Flyer’s column.
Saturday was played as a betterball Stableford with many of the visitors playing their last game before trekking back home.
The Brown brothers browned everybody off by winning with a score of just 41 points played in a fresh south westerly wind.
Deon Naidoo and Ramu Rangasamy were just one behind on 40 with Mick Marriot and Geoff Thommasen on 39.
Coenie du Bruyn and Herman Grotius were found to have not combined very well and paid the usual fine in order to lift the Stone.
Another fine which caused much hilarity was for the two Petes, Gilliver and Morris who were soundly beaten by their respective wives Hayley and Alex.
The Scottburgh Lions Golf Day takes place this Saturday (10th) with many prizes on offer.
The cost is R1000 per fourball and the proceeds will be put back into worthy causes in the local district.
The sani2c is once again finishing on our first fairway on the weekend of May 15 and 16.
Club Championships have been rescheduled for the weekend of May 29 and 30.
Flyer’s footnote: Keep your head down, nobody ever looked up and saw a good shot.
