No limits for athlete Rebecca

She particular enjoys being part of the CHOC Run with her little dog, Puppy (yes, that's his name).

Rebecca Nagel (25) of Margate is fast becoming an inspiration in the cross-fit community and beyond.

She has been confined to a wheelchair since early 2014, when she was involved in an horrific car accident she was lucky to survive.

Fatigue is nothing but a mind state for Rebecca Nagel of Margate, who recently competed at an open crossfit competition.

She took up crossfit about five months ago, due to the influence of a family friend who motivated her to join a local club.

“She convinced me to come and try out one of the afternoon classes as they weren’t too packed. ‘Try something new’, she said, and I love trying new things,” said Rebecca.

Recently she competed in an international competition for able and special athletes.

“It was a worldwide competition, the first with an adaptive athlete section,” she explained.

The competition included 16 different divisions, for male and female competitors.

The adaptive division was recently introduced for special athletes, which includes the visually impaired and amputee athletes.

A display of strength, both mental and physical, is displayed by Rebecca Nagel of Margate at a recent open crossfit competition.

Rebecca took part in the seated adaptive division.

Athletes recorded videos of themselves doing the exercises and submitted them online, as the competition was done virtually.

Although results are yet to be finalised, as it stands now, Rebecca is ranked ninth in the world in her section.

Training out of Crossfit Wild Coast in Margate, she has settled in very well at the facility, saying it felt like she was home.

“I really like how it just felt like home when I got there. The staff and members have been so helpful and welcoming, they always make sure that all workouts are adapted for me and everyone there is always willing to help,” she said.

Rebecca Nagel gives it her all during the recent crossfit competition.

Among other things, Rebecca is an animal lover who enjoys staying active, and taking part in charity fundraisers.

She particular enjoys being part of the CHOC Run with her little dog, Puppy (yes, that’s his name).

“I adopted him from a woman who didn’t have a big enough garden for the dog, so I took him in and now he is my best friend. We do everything together and he goes everywhere with me. I didn’t really like his original name so changed it to ‘Puppy’,” she chuckled.
