Medals galore for Blue Ocean swimmers
The level 2 swimmers were not to be out done and brought home many medals.
Blue Ocean Aquatics (BOA) swimmers Nelzaan Strydom and Mandy Koegelenberg represented the KwaZulu-Natal team at the South African Open water championships held at Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bay recently.
Both swam in the 3km national event.
Nelzaan placed third in the 17 to 18 years age group in a time of 41:06:05 while Mandy finished third in the 41 to 50 years age group in a time of 47:33:19.
Nelzaan went on to race in the 5km event and placed 30th overall and eighth in her age group in a time of 1:12:16.
Level 1, 2 and 3 regionals also took place recently where 13 BOA swimmers participated in the various levels.
Bringing home medals for level 3 was Everraud Raynard who won gold in the 400m freestyle, silver in 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 50m butterfly as well as three bronze medals in the 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 50m freestyle events.
Nelzaan Strydom won three bronze medals in the 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
Tehl-Cadi Day Garden won two bronze medals in the 400m freestyle and 200m breaststroke events.
The level 2 swimmers were not to be out done and brought home many medals.
Hannah Parry won gold in the 50m backstroke, 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke events as well as three silver medals in the 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle.
Kirsty Koegelenberg won gold in the 200m freestyle in her age group.
Enzo Raynard won two silvers in the 200m breaststroke and freestyle events and two bronze medals in the 200m individual medley and 50m freestyle.
Callum Robinson won gold in the 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m breaststroke events.
James Fisher won a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke and 2 bronze medals in the 50m and 200m breaststroke.
Liam Venter competed for the first time at a regional meet in level 1 and won two silver medals in the 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke, as well as three bronze medals in the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.
Daniel Fisher competed at the South African national junior championships in Durban and won a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke.
Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed and won medals, as well as those who swam personal best times.
This has been a challenging season and they rose to the occasion and excelled.
