Course in great nick for Club Champs

Wally Kent’s 11 points on the four assigned jackpot holes saw him take home the money but no one managed to slot any two clubs this week.

The course at Umkomaas Golf Club is looking great and playing well, thanks to the dedicated greens team.

The greens are running swift and true, perfect timing ahead of this weekend’s Club Champs.

As the hosts for both men’s and ladies’ KZN Interclub in October, Umkomaas is pulling out all the stops with upgrades in the clubhouse and improvements on the course.

Thirty-four players braved the wet conditions on Saturday in the Betterball Stableford competition and Wally Kent and Brian Kassel came out tops on an impressive 46 points.

In second place were Bryony Rodgers and Barrie Taylor with 43 points, with Bing Opie and Keith Vergottini missing out by one point, coming in third on 42 points.

Wally Kent’s 11 points on the four assigned jackpot holes saw him take home the money but no one managed to slot any two clubs this week.

It was a combined Stableford last Saturday and husband and wife duo, Willie and Sue Boucher, took top honours yet again with 70 points.

Hot on their heels were Barrie Taylor and Brian Kassel with 69 points and Sabiha Hulley and Patrick Ndlovu’s 65 points got third place.

Two clubs for Jacques Hulley, Patrick Ndlovu, Evija McKelvey and Russel Cumming.

No-one managed to make the qualifying 10 points in the jackpot.

The ladies league team played their second fixture against Amanzimtoti in Port Shepstone last Sunday.

Despite best efforts on all sides, league log leaders Toti proved too strong and managed convincing wins in all three matches.

The ladies remain positive about their prospects for the remainder of the league and look forward to taking on Selborne in Toti next month.
