Golf news from San Lameer Country Club

This year San Lameer was happy to host the prestigious event, which saw 12 teams representing their respective golfing regions from around the country.

A number of golfing tournaments took place at San Lameer Country Club recently.

4X4 Men’s Team Challenge:
The 4×4 Men’s Team Challenge took place from September 29 to October 2, which is one of San Lameer’s flagship events. Some128 golfers battled it out to be crowned the 2021 champions.

Four rounds of golf were played in four days in different formats which kept excitement at an all-time high. “We were proud to have Nike involved in an amazing opening evening where we did a “pop up” shop,” said Jolanda Cloete, San Lameer’s marketing manager.

Eastern Province will make a return to the A-Section of the SA Inter-Provincial Tournament for the first time in seven years after the young team romped to victory in the B-Section of the 60th edition at San Lameer.

PGA Shield fundraiser
A regional fundraiser, the PGA Shield took place from September 26 to 27, and is aimed at supporting the local professionals as well as growing the game of golf within the KZN region. Fourteen professionals and 42 amateurs competed over two days and a total of R13 005 was raised from entries.

Men’s Premier Interprovincial Tournament:
A tournament that only makes its way to each region once every 12 years, took place from September 12 to 17. This year San Lameer was happy to host the prestigious event, which saw 12 teams representing their respective golfing regions from around the country. Each team competed in over 10 rounds of golf in five days of match play, all while forging new friendships in the midst of fierce competition.

SA Kids Junior Africa Challenge
This annual event took place from August 22 to 28 and was hosted on the breathtaking San Lameer championship course, and attracted 140 junior golfers between the ages of 6 to 17 making it one of the few junior events in South Africa that count towards a global ranking.

Forging new friendships while enjoying some fierce competition, the children all shared one common interest – the love of golf.

“Our homeowners volunteering as shuttles, on the driving range, live scoring as well as starting and marshalling – without them this event would not have been made possible,” Jolanda said.
