Ugu karateka earn medals at champs

Jayden Oosthuizen won silver medals in both the 10 and 11 kata category as well as 10 and 11 boys kumite under 40kg category.

A group of young, up-and-coming karateka from the Ugu region recently took part in the KSA National Development Tournament and Women’s Cup held in Tongaat.

Giancarlo Ferranti starred for Ugu on the day when he obtained a gold medal in the 7 and 9 year old kata category, as well as a gold medal in the 8 and 9 year old kumite division division.

Jayden Oosthuizen won silver medals in both the 10 and 11 kata category as well as 10 and 11 boys kumite under 40kg category.

Christiaan Potgieter was not to be counted out either as he also secured a silver medal in 12 and 13 kumite above 55kg division.

Richi Swanepoel and Brigitta Thaumuller won bronze medals in their respective 14 and 15 year old boys cadet kumite and the girls kata and kumite division.

Taylor Selkon took part in the Women’s Cup where she finished in third place, obtaining a bronze medal in the 16 and 17 year old kata category.

Ugu charmain, Sensei Coenie Vrey said he was pleased with the results and the hard work of all the karateka who participated in the tournament.
