Gillivers shine at five pin fun

After an enforced layoff due to bad weather and spring treatment, things are back to something approaching normality at Scottburgh Golf Club.
The greens staff has done a great job and the greens, although a bit long, will soon be back to their very best.
The format for the competition last Wednesday was an Individual Stableford and, with the sun shining, everyone was raring to go.

Geoff Thommasen, the previous winner on 41 points, came down to Earth with a thump as he just scraped into double figures to win the Stone by a country mile.
The golfing Gillivers made a bright start to the weekend in the Fairway Friday Five Pin sponsored by Pete and Alex Morris.
Jason took first place and R200 with 10 points over dad, Pete, who took R100 for his 8 points.
Linda Hall didn’t win the Stone but was rewarded with a bag of practice balls.
Paul and Gina Tedder were the sponsors of the P&G Construction betterball Stableford played on Saturday.
Old stagers Brian Richards and Tony Power accumulated 44 points to win by four from the Gilliver boys, making a meal of the weekend, with Mike Hogan and Peter Daffue third with 39 on a countout.
Gary Jones hasn’t featured of late but on Saturday he and Thys Swart managed to get into the announcements as recipients of Stone Last.
During the layoff, the club lost two of its old members, namely Keith Love and Clive Holmes – a sad time for all, both being keen players and sponsors, Clive of course being an ex professional and teacher of the game.
It’s a betterball Stableford on Wednesday and from about 14:00 it’s the Fairway Friday Five pin and on Saturday Brian Richards will be sponsoring a fourball alliance.
