South Coast boasts fantastic fishing spots

Winter is considered to be the best time of the year for fishing on the South Coast.

Sometimes when the fishing is not good and the water is turning or tumbling, one can’t beat catching the morning sunrise.

Especially this time of year, May is generally perfect for family outings to the beach and why not a fishing trip.

Here on the South Coast we are blessed with about 120km of coastal stretch from Scottburgh to Port Edward which boasts a number of fantastic fishing spots and gullies for every level of angler, no matter if you teaching the wife or the children.

Undoubtedly, winter is considered to be the best time of the year for fishing on the South Coast.

There are many shoreline locations and piers to choose from, not forgetting the rivers. Here are some of the top fishing spots most fishermen love to go to.

Stiebel Rocks and Pumula are excellent spots for experienced fishermen and the fishing gurus claim that there is a good chance of catching kob, shad, garrick and sharks.

Umtentweni by the rocks is a good spot for bream and shad.

Sandspit in Port Shepstone is a popular fishing spot for most anglers. There is consistent action with shad, kob and garrick. It’s a good stretch of shoreline making it a perfect spot for first-timers to learn.

The Block is a famous spot just below Port Shepstone’s national monument, The Lighthouse. Here fishermen can catch shad, kob, garrick and small pan fish.

Orange Rocks near St Michaels is a good scenic spot where anglers sometimes catch sharks, but also an excellent spot for shad and bream.

Uvongo Pier is known for shad, and lately guys are catching salmon

Margate Pier is renowned for its shad, garrick and kob and more. Some have even pulled out sharks at this pier.

Splash Rocks in Port Edward is a great location for experienced anglers, hence the name Splash Rocks. Great spot for shad and game fishing.

There were a few reports of shad and bream being caught in the past week.
