Southbroom locals down Swallows

They'll have the annual Shootout on February 24 and 25 to claim some silverware.

Sweltering hot February heat is usually the order of the day when the annual Swallows Challenge is played at Southbroom Golf Club.

This is between the locals and the foreign visitors who make an annual golf pilgrimage of sorts to our beautiful coast.

The South Africans took the laurels this year, winning 16,5-7,5 with the Swallows perhaps still adjusting to the exceptionally hot summer.

They’ll have the annual Shootout on February 24 and 25 to claim some silverware.

Werner Duggan (left) and Christer Solgevik were runners-up as far as pairs went on the day.

Best score on the day went to Wayne Addison and Nic Dreyer on 45 points.

Next were Werner Duggan and Chris Solgevik (now a permanent resident from Sweden) on 44 pts, Anton Kohrmann and Grant Richards on 43 pts.

Five pairs carded 42 pts, namely Anita Landolf and Alexandra Huber, Johan Wentzel and Brian Jolliffe, Anton Leal and Roger Hissey, Bob O’Callaghan and Chris Ledden, Andy Bossard and Eli Bachmann.

The previous Wednesday’s ladies’ Aggregate Stableford was won by Jill O’Callaghan and Lesley Godley on 65 pts, by three from Allyson Thomas and Heather Anderson on 62 points and Tracy van der Spuy and Irene Schanda in third place on 61 pts.

The men’s Aggregate Stableford was won by Bo Bergqvist and Hendrik Westermann on 74 pts, by five from Gary Purtell and Rory O’Donnell on 69 pts.
Third went to Bob Thomas and Ken Crawford on 67 pts, with Vic Pretorius and Rob Meydell next on 66 pts.

Chicken Run: Heather Anderson 22 pts, Geoff Skelton 20 pts, Alex Crawford 19 pts, Malcolm Greenland 19 pts.
