Golf ‘goes right’ at Margate Challenge

The winners were Heber de Beer and Juan Dixon on 92 points.

The ninth annual Margate Golf Challenge, sponsored by Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach, was again a massive success both on and off the course last weekend.

Dealer Principal Stephen Jones struck the opening shot and, surrounded by a very vocal crowd armed with cellphones to video and photograph, he did not fail to disappoint.

The ball flew off the clubface like a frightened bat out of a cave, straight into the smooth trunk of a palm tree immediately adjacent to the tee box.
From there it ricocheted across the putting green almost into the cart/bag room.
There was a tremendous cheer and roar of laughter.

Luckily, Stephen has a fantastic sense of humour and could handle to ribbing. At least it was an improvement on last year when he hit a golf cart.
Out on the course, the golfers had their own problems in the strong wind.

However, at the end of the two days, the winners were Heber de Beer and Juan Dixon on 92 points.
