Damien Pillay memorial game to become annual fixture

The P&G Construction day takes place this Saturday (8th).

To all golfers who are constantly losing golf balls; an article appeared on my phone about a golfer who took a new ball he called ‘Yella’ and played with it constantly for over 13 rounds.

During that time he played 1036 strokes over 237 holes and made 28 birdies. Eventually it went AWOL, now that’s what I call value for money.

Last Wednesday’s breeze got stronger as the round progressed. Not a problem for in-form Wayne Simpson as he was assisted by Anton Visage and posted 42 points to win again.

There was a four point cushion over second placed Mike Eley and Roly Tickle who also increased their winnings over their playing partners. Tony Power picked up the hidden holes and Graham Brown and Deane Jooste picked up the Stone.

There were 25 players for last Friday’s 5 pin with a few upcountry visitors joining in. Vice captain Poomba Joubert showed how it was done with 13 points and he ran it close as second placed Thay Shomugan closed with 12.
It was a mixed bag last Saturday as we played the Umthunzi Hotel Individual and the Damien Pillay memorial game. Damien tragically passed way last year at the very early age of 22. His joys in life were family, friends and golf played of course at Scottburgh. Family and friends were present and took part in this memorial to Damien which will become an annual fixture. Winning a two night stay at the hotel was Tony Power who amassed 40 points, second place and an overnight stay went to Ivan Govender with 39.

Wayne Simpson is never far away and he stepped up for third place with 38 followed by Clyde Leisagang, TM Moodley and Geoff Thommasen. Nearest the pins went to Rajiv Pillay 5th and Thay Govender 10th with Ramu Rangasamy ‘winning’ the Stone. It was a great way to remember Damien and I’m sure he would have been proud of the outcome.

A betterball Stableford takes place this Wednesday (5th) and this Saturday (8th) is the P&G Construction day.
Flyer’s footnote: With the hype of the Masters tournament coming up if you didn’t know better you would think that Augusta National Golf Club is a holy land and the winner will be passing through a corridor where no mortal will ever tread.
