This year saw the start of the Village Eagles Golf Club at the Umkomaas golf course. We had 54 players in attendance on a wet morning, however, the rain was intermittent and did not cause any serious issues.
With a reduced course and playing the same 9 holes twice due to the excessive rain in the previous days presented a challenging day. In the end, we all had a great day’s golf. The course was in good condition, thanks to all for the effort.

Best Lady was Cathy Kamstra on 37 individual points and Robin Melville took the men’s prize on 43 points. The winners on the day were Mike Nourse, Allen Behrendt, Sarel Swart and Fred van Prooijen on an alliance score of 88 points. This low score is a reflection that the course was playing difficult, and accuracy was the play of the day.

The longest day and collecting the Stones Trophy were Eddie Matthews, Patrick Sheehan, Derek Hodge and Dave Geils on 71 points. The results were calculated by Stan Sim, Trevor Bell and Alistair Eyers, thank you for the effort.
Eddie Mathews presented the results which went without a hitch. On the fines side, Jeremy Boyd was the master and this started with a fine for not wearing a Village Eagles golf shirt. Let’s all try this year to wear our club shirt during these events. On behalf of the Village Eagles Golf Club, I wish you all a healthy, wealthy, happy and prosperous new year and I do hope that golfing improves for all.

The AGM was held on January 10 at AMBC in the Umdoni Retirement Village. The year started with 134 members and finished at 127 members. This is still good numbers for our club. The committee for this year was elected as follows: Eddie Matthews (chairman), Ian Aitkin (treasurer), Trevor Bell (secretary), Fred van Prooijen (fixtures), Stan Sim (handicaps/scoring and results, scribe, media), Noel Jessup (sponsorships) and Jeremy Boyd (general committee).
Our next game will be held at Umdoni on February 6 – see you all there.
