Margate Week goes off swimmingly after floods

The event took place despite Margate BC having lost its three greens during last month’s flooding.

THE BELL

The club has had a successful Saturday League campaign this year. The men’s B side won the C league, and the ladies’ C side won the B league.

The men’s A-side and ladies’ B-side were runners-up in their A leagues, and the club achieved a third place in the B league with the A-side ladies.

Winners of the open trips, sponsored by Harbourview Spar, were Leon Sander, Christopher Danca and Khaya Hlongwa.

Runners-up were Stuart Chapple, Jan Purdon and Peter Anderson.

Third place went to Hew Hodgson, Jimmy Holtshauzen and Roy Matkovich.

The Harbourview Superspar mixed pairs was won by Dumisani Madlala and Trudy Rush.

Runners-up were Vernon and Mari Strauss.

Session prize went to Kevin Mullen and Di de Wet.

Winners of the Piet Se Hut competition were Albert van Niekerk and JJ Nell.

Runners-up were Kevin Mullen and Mada Lindeque.

Session prize went to Brian Mertz and Rienie Blignaut.

HIBBERDENE

The Hibberdene Spar drawn mixed trips were won by Estelle Quinn, Bruce Hoyer and Buddy Marnewick.

Runners-up were Albert Munnik, Gill Rule and Dianne Geyser.

Session went to Alida Munnik, Brian Mertz and Chris Joubert.

Johan Bentley of Margate Lion’s donated lunches for 30 people who helped clear the greens after the flood.
