Bali beckons for surfer Louise

The event window for the Rip Curl GromSearch International Final, covered by Sun Bum, will be November 13 to 17.

The Rip Curl GromSearch Series, presented by Sea Harvest, was run at Seal Point in Cape St Francis from September 20-22.

The series comprises five surfing competitions across the country in the U12, U14, U16, and U18 divisions, with the U16s recognised by global standards as the premier division.

Although only placing second at this event, Scottburgh’s Louise Lepront was by far the most winningest surfer of the series in the premier division.

When the scores were tallied from the top four out of the five events, she emerged as the clear winner in this competitive division.

The prize for the series winners in the U16 divisions is an entry into the Rip Curl Global Final, to be held in Bali in November, as well as R20 000 towards their travel arrangements.

On the men’s side, Rory Dace from Cape St Francis was the U16 series winner and will also attend.

These prizes were sponsored by a partnership with the new-loo Zigzag Magazine, Royal St Andrews Hotel in Port Alfred and Sea Harvest.

In Seal Point, Louise claimed victory in the U18 division and got a second spot in her U16 division final, firmly cementing her win in the series.

“I am happy with the win and would like to thank everyone who has supported me this year,” said a stoked Louise at the prizegiving after the event at Seal Point. “I’m excited about going to Bali for the finals and competing against the best groms in the world.”

The conditions were challenging at Seal Point, with the area dogged by a solid onshore throughout the event, but Louise surfed admirably on her backhand, groomed from all the hours she has put in at Scottburgh Point.

In addition to incredible waves and hospitality in Bali, competitors will also be mentored by WSL Tour surfers Stephanie Gilmore and Molly Picklum during the event, who will be acting as ‘GromSearch Captains’ for the assembled athletes.

The two superstars of professional surfing will provide competitors with first-hand insight into heat strategies and the keys to representing their country at the elite level whilst ensuring everyone can have fun and enjoy the experience.
