Some sparkling talent was on display as the RC Challengers U11s enjoyed a practice match against a makeshift U12 team at Margate Primary last Saturday.
The match came down to the last ball, with Elabo Mgoduka saving a boundary to see the U12s, some, who were playing their first match for the U12s, sneak a two run win.
The U12s batted first and 126-4 in their 20 overs. Top run scorers were Elijah Langton (28 off 20 retired), Damion Bezuidenhout (25 off 24 retired) and Daniel Rush (15 off 9 retired).
Picking up wickets were Zibu Malamba (2-5) and Matt Graham-Jolly (1-7). There was one run out via JJ Grobler.
In response, the U11s did well, almost getting the runs. Leading run scorers were Bertu van Reenen (32 not out off 33), Seth du Plessis (29 off 27 retired), Shaden Ellapen (17 off 28 retired) and Dian Schoeman (14 not out off 12).
Wicket takers for the U12s were Damion Bezuidenhout (1-5), Francois Smit (1-16) and Ndumiso Mwelase (1-16).
The U11s will be playing in the annual Kearsney Festival, which will now take place from November 29 to December 1.
This was postponed from a few months ago when it bucketed down that whole week, so hopefully, the weather will come to the party for those days.
The team comprises Bertu van Reenen (captain), Saien Chetty, Seth du Plessis, Shaden Ellapen, Matt Graham-Jolly, JJ Grobler, Jade Jordaan, Imraan Khan, Taiyn Naicker, Jesse Langton, Zibu Malamba, Dian Schoeman.
The format is T20, in five-ball overs, with revolving batting orders. It’s sure to be competitive, but the South Coast team should be able to hold their own.
Coming up thereafter is an U13 South Coast Summer Festival to be played from December 2 to 7. This will involve the RC Challengers, RC Chargers, Snipers, Sluipskutters (Snipers B), Margate Spartans, Port Shepstone Hub and Pmb Invitation teams.
