SOUTHBROOM
The Whisky Trio, an all-Riverside team of Ross Ferguson, Bruce Millar, Shane Nienaber and occasionally Terrance McGlynn, won the inaugural Hibiscus Brokers Supertrips in a thrilling final round played at Southbroom last week.
After round 10 of 11, the team was lying second in the log, flanked by leaders The GeeGees – Eileen Burt, Glyn Evans and Glenn Hatfield, and by Walking on Water’s Tony Waters and Cleve and Julie Walker. The format of strength versus strength meant that the top two teams played each other, and Whisky Trio won by 17 points to 11 in the 18-end, three-skin contest in which each team member plays lead, second and skip.
Walking on Water got the better of the Bowling Buddies (Eddie Fann, Wayne and Maureen Muller) 18 -10 and edged their way into second place ahead of The GeeGees.
The 36-team competition was played at Riverside, Margate and Southbroom, with Margate hosting the other two sections in the final round.
On the day, the top section was won by the Hare and Graces’ team of Paul Hare, Charmaine van der Westhuizen and Sandy van Niekerk; the middle section went to the Best or Bust team of Amanda Visser and Rob and Pat Lyle, and the third section was won by The Sweepers’ Helen Proctor and Dave and Monica Campbell.
The overall winning team shared R9 000, runners-up R6 000 and third place R3 000.
During the year, more than R54 000 was distributed in prizes: many thanks to Hibiscus Brokers for its generous sponsorship.
