Hogan shines at Commonwealth champs

Highlight of the weekend for Ugu was Proteas athlete Blake Hogan taking bronze kumite in the championship division.

Ugu Karate is proud of all its athletes who took part in the Commonwealth Elite and Club Championships at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban recently.

It was a tough competition with athletes from more than 20 countries in action.

Highlight of the weekend for Ugu was Proteas athlete Blake Hogan taking bronze kumite in the championship division.

He may have been disappointed not to have won gold or silver, but it’s still a wonderful achievement against some of the best.

Thanks were extended to Dr Mohammed Nael Sahli and Taylor Selkon, who volunteered their services at the event.

In the club division, three athletes won gold in kumite in their respective divisions, namely Sarah Sahli, Tyler Gous and Tristan Appalraju.

Silver kumite was achieved by Miguel Gous.

Neriah Peeriyilal earned bronze for both kata and kumite. Jayden Oosthuizen and Tyrese Faro also achieved bronze in kumite.

Ilhaam Amod earned bronze kumite for both individual and team.

Other noteworthy performances were put in by Teighlon Fynn (5th) and Drishti Duki and Emir Sahli (both participation).
