Josh spins Southerns to victory
Even without a few top players the team was able to produce a comfortable win.

Spinners Josh Pillay and Gershion Lawrence and seamer Abdur Rehman proved too difficult to get away for Umlazi as Southern KZN cruised to an easy 73 run win last Sunday.
The KZN Castle Promotion Cricket League match played at Port Shepstone Country Club, was delayed due to some overnight and early morning rain.
At one stage, it didn’t look like there would be any cricket. However, it cleared enough to play.
Southern KZN made 142-5.
Openers Morné Bishop and Gershion Lawrence got things off to a solid start enough, with Gershion out for 10 and Morné for 23.
Mikyle Bartel (1) and Jayden Scholtz (3) fell cheaply before Sachin Kalkapersad and Garreth Bishop steadied things and scored the bulk of the remaining runs. Sachin made 70 and Garreth 24 not out.
They may have felt it wasn’t quite enough, but in the muggy, cloudy conditions and soggy outfield, never mind the low, slow wicket, it was always going to be a tough chase against Southern’s spinners, and there are quite a few of them.
The Umlazi batsmen played some attractive strokes but never looked totally comfortable, and wickets fell at regular intervals.
They were bowled out for 69 in 22.1 overs.
Wickets were taken by Josh Pillay (3-11 in four overs), Abdur Rehman (2-13 in four overs), Gershion (1-13 in five overs), Tyreek Naicker (1-1 in one over) and Jayden Scholtz (1-0 in one ball).
Opening bowler Liam Scholtz bowled with a lot of energy but without luck in the wickets column. Brinley de Bruin had an over late in the day.
The team comprised Gershion Lawrence, Morné Bishop, Mikyle Bartel, Jayden Scholtz, Sachin Kalkapersad, Garreth Bishop, Brinley de Bruin, Liam Scholtz, Tyreek Naiker, Josh Pillay and Abdur Rehman.
They now top the log, but Topham have two games in hand, and Southerns have two tough games to play, so promotion is possible rather than probable.
