Knockouts approach in autumn cricket league

The matches should be keenly contested.

The Southern KZN Autumn 100 has been on the go at Port Shepstone Country Club since April 27 and has seen superb cricket take place, with the fairly new 100-ball format a hit among the players.

The tournament has had 10 teams playing across two pools of five.

With one match day to go, Challengers XI have already booked a spot in the semi-finals.

With three matches to be played this Sunday, five of the six teams in action (plus Hit Men who have already completed their fixtures) still have a chance to secure one of the three remaining spots for the knockouts.

The early running in Group A saw Super Giants make a strong start, which ultimately didn’t make a difference as they fell away with two defeats in a row.

This left the door open to ICC XI, South Coast Tigers and Port Edward Warriors.
In Group B Challengers XI dominated with four wins out of four.

Abdur Rehman of Super Giants and Mikyle Bartle of Challengers have been the two standout batsmen while Abdur Rehman is also the leading wicket taker with seven wickets.

Not far behind, with five wickets each, are Andre Ellapen, Zainul Otlavala and Abdullah Dhudat, all of the Challengers XI.

ICC XI take on South Coast Tigers at PSCC this Sunday, in what is effectively a winner advances scenario while Rising Stars play Mustangs with both teams still in contention and motivated.

The final fixture sees Port Edward Warriors play Sezela at Scottburgh CC.
