Help cheerleaders get to nationals
The donations will be used for expenses which include transport from Umdoni to Oudtshoorn, accommodation for five days, meals over seven days and competition entry fees.
Mid South Coast Crew is excited to compete in the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association’s national competition at the Recreational Grounds in Oudtshoorn from July 4 to 12.
This will be the first time these athletes will be exposed to a national setting. They will also attend the International Cheer Union 2025 African Cheerleading Championships on July 6.
Mid South Coast Crew is a development team in the Umdoni area. They are an independent team, the athletes attend various schools and are from different backgrounds.
“Majorettes and Performance Cheerleading teaches them to work together and unite under a team sport despite their race, culture and upbringing,” said Liezel Jooste (coach Wiezy).
“Discipline and commitment are key to make a good Majorette and Performance Cheerleader and to have a cohesive team.”
The athletes will practise for many hours to fine-tune their displays which include multiple props, formations and footwork, combining dance and drill moves to make up marches, displays and dances.
“Participating in the national competition all hinges on whether we are able to raise enough money to get our athletes to Oudtshoorn and back as well as cover other expenses there,” explained coach Wiezy.
The cost is quite substantial – R95 600. The cost is at least R9700 per athlete, and with a number of them hailing from underprivileged backgrounds or financially restricted circumstances, it is difficult.
“The athletes have been working hard to raise funds and it would be a travesty if the team is unable to secure the necessary amount. It would also be devastating to the young girls who are putting their hearts and souls into preparation to set out in the national arena.”
Mid South Coast Crew asks for sponsorships. The donations will be used for expenses which include transport from Umdoni to Oudtshoorn (± 1200km drive), accommodation for five days, meals over seven days and competition entry fees.
Any extra funding will be used for additional activities for the girls to make the experience more memorable, purchasing a variety of props, uniforms and competition essentials (including kit bags).
“We will be grateful for any amount as every little bits adds up to help towards our goal,” said coach Wiezy.
