Tricky greens for Eagles

Selbourne Golf Club is the place to be for the next game.

Scottburgh Golf Club was the venue for this month’s Village Eagles game.

The course had been cut back a lot and was in good condition, considering all the recent rain.

The greens proved tricky to read, however, the short rough contributed to a low lost ball count – well done to Allen Behrendt for his estimate of 54.

Best lady was Stella Scott on 39 individual points and Billy Smith on a count out with Martin Conway took the men’s prize on 40 points.

The winners on the day were Fanie de Jager, Allen Behrendt, Billy Smith and Trevor Bell on an alliance score of 92 points. The longest day and collecting the Stones Trophy were Steve Stead, Jim Holness, Ian Aitkin and Alister Ferguson on 76 points.

The results were calculated by Stan Sim, Alistair Eyres and Trevor Bell.

This was the first time they tried a shotgun start, which proved far more efficient in reducing the time significantly. Eddie Mathews presented the results, and this went without a hitch.

On the fines side, Derek Hodge was the master and this was, once again, well supported.

The next game will be at Selbourne Golf Club on July 1. It will be a shotgun start. See you all there.
