Considering he doesn’t play an excessive amount of tournament golf, Jason Gilliver (Scottburgh GC) did quite well at the recent KZN Amateur.
He had rounds of 73 and 74 at Selborne Park Golf Club to qualify in 10th place, and then reached as far as the quarter-finals before being eliminated.
The winner of both the qualifying stage and overall matchplay was Johndré Ludick of Graaff-Reinet.
He had rounds of 67 and 64 to lead the strokeplay and continued this form into the matchplay, sweeping all aside.
Four Umkomaas GC members teed it up in the tournament, but missed the cut, with Damien O’Connell by a single shot.
The others, Tashlyn Naicker and Bernardis twins Jordan and Rory, were further down the leaderboard on this occasion.
Former Umkomaas member Russell Heine, now playing out of Zwartkop CC also had a disappointing return by his high standards.
Jan McDermott (Umdoni Park) had a second round he’d like to forget quickly and also missed the matchplay.
