Spring fishing in full swing
Don't miss out on a fishing competition this Saturday hosted by Zion Tabernacle Ministries' from Port Shepstone to Orange Rocks.
Spring is a prime time for anglers as fish become more active due to rising water temperatures, making them eager to feed. Key strategies for this season include targeting shallow areas which warm up faster, observing weather patterns for stable conditions, using specific bait presentations and adapting techniques for different species.

On the rock and surf side, anglers hauled in garrick, salmon, bronze bream and some shad last week. Margate Pier seems to be a good spot in the early hours, so get there before sunrise.
Wimpie Bierman caught a garrick at Margate Pier on Tuesday this week, and Flip Zietsman reeled in a 14.88kg salmon, also at Margate Pier recently.

According to Stompie Koekemoer from KZN Fishing Guides, the week ahead could be a good one for anglers.
Anglers don’t forget the Zion Tabernacle Ministries’ fishing competition this Saturday (13th). Registration is at 05:00 at The Block in Port Shepstone and entry is R100 per person.
Designated fishing areas are from Sandspit (no 4) to Orange Rocks in Uvongo, and fishing times are from 05:30 to 10:30. All fish caught must be edible and brought to the weigh point at The Block. Final weigh-in is at 11:00. All entrants must produce a valid fishing licence and abide by the rules and regulations of the KZN Wildlife and Marine Act.
