National stage for Scottburgh athletes
The school community is proud of its athletes whose dedication and talent shone brightly at the KZN championships.
Twenty three athletes from Scottburgh High showcased their skills at the KZN Christian Schools’ Athletics Championships held at the Umsunduzi Athletics Stadium in Pietermaritzburg recently.
Competing against top athletes from across the province, the team delivered exceptional performances, with many achieving personal bests and earning podium finishes.
The championships saw remarkable results across various events:
Lwandile Lembethe (girls U18) claimed silver in the 100m with a blazing 13.48 seconds, followed by a strong 29.81 seconds in the 200m and an impressive 4.92m in the long jump.
Nqubeko Mthethwa (men U20) secured second place in the high jump, clearing 1.74m, and leaped 6.12m in the long jump.
Lwazi Mnguni (men U20) earned a bronze medal in the high jump, also clearing 1.74m.
Rylee Williams (men U20) delivered a stellar all-round performance, clocking 11.64 seconds in the 100m, 23.36 seconds in the 200m, 52.34 seconds in the 400m, and jumping 6.10m in the long jump.
Qhawe Nzuza (boys U14) achieved a personal best of 4:59.66 in the 1500m, showcasing remarkable endurance.
William Collins (men U20) competed in multiple events, recording a 6.00m long jump, a 1.74m high jump, a 59.17-second 400m and a 29.13m discus throw.
Siyamthanda Songo (boys U16) impressed in the sprints with times of 11.94 seconds in the 100m, 23.90 seconds in the 200m and 55.52 seconds in the 400m.
The team’s outstanding efforts paid off, with nine athletes qualifying to represent the school and the province at the South African Christian Schools’ Championships.
This prestigious event will return to the Umsunduzi Athletics Stadium from September 26 to 27, where the athletes will aim to make their mark on the national stage.
