Legends edge out ICC Port Shepstone to take Desai trophy
The weather held off, thankfully, for what turned out to be an interesting match in the end.
The Desai Premier Cricket League culminated in a low-scoring final between ICC Port Shepstone and Legends.
Watched by fans from both sides, the match was played at Suid-Natal High’s cricket field.
ICC, captained by Sadam Patel, won the toss and chose to bat, making 68 all out. Sahal Mansoor was in formidable form with the ball, taking 4-8 in three overs.
Abdullah Dhudhat took 2-14 and Junaid Mall took 2-22, with Ikram Bapo picking up 1-17. There was one run out.
Only Yaseen Gangat offered any resistance with the bat, scoring 32 runs. Naiem chipped in with 14 but no one else managed double figures.
In response, Legends, captained by Yacoob Ansari, knocked off the runs, reaching 70-6 after 12 overs.
Ahmed Nakooda top scored with 20, with Abdullah Dhudhat making 13 not out to see Legends across the line.
Talha took 3-14 and Zainul 2-5 with Ashraf picking up 1-7 towards the end.
The other two teams involved in the league were Port Edward Warriors and Harding Sultan.
