SOUTHBROOM
After 11 rounds involving 50 teams at four venues, the all-Southbroom team Walking on Water triumphed in the 2025 Hibiscus Brokers SuperTrips competition.
Cleve and Julie Walker, with Tony Waters, beat Watching You’s Brian Douthwaite, Alan Gibson and Mike Dunn into second place.
Both teams had the same number of points; the winners had a slightly better shot difference.
In third place were The SuperKings, namely Dieter Botha, Jim Vaughan and Robbie Duyts.
The silver section was won by the Riverside Boys comprising Peter Griffiths, Gerhard Waldeck and Clinton Edmonds.
Second were Lambazi Lurkers – Ron Weddell and Pam and Dave Nothard, with The Villagers, namely Bill Eccles, Mervyn Barratt and Mannie Rodrigues, finished third.
The competition has grown from 36 to 50 teams, and the target is for 56 teams in 2026.
Each team member plays one skin of six ends as skip, second and lead.
It provides great experience for newer players who seldom get a chance at the skip’s end. Points are awarded for winning each end, skin and the overall result.
After each round, the scores are ranked and the next round is played on a strength-versus-strength basis such that every team will find its level over the year.
The top 24 teams are separated out halfway through the year to permit the silvers to compete for prizes.
Hibiscus Brokers generously sponsored more than R40 000 in prize money.

RIVERSIDE
Members enjoyed a Toy Run bowls day last Sunday. All the toys collected will be donated to a charity organisation to enable them to spread some Christmas cheer.
Heartfelt thanks were extended to organisers Pam Nothard and Cheryl Thompson, plus the many assistants, for their tremendous efforts in making it such a success.
Thank you to all the bowlers for their generous donations. A lot of children are going to be very happy this holiday.
Winners on the day were Ross Ferguson, Cassidy Martin and Clinton Edmonds.
Reaching the finishing post last, but certainly not least, were Chippy Louw, Joe Visagie and Dave van As.

MARGATE
The South Coast VW trips, played on November 25, was won by Mark Kassner, Steve Blundell and Monica Campbell.
Runners-up were Peter Mundl, Jenny Louw and Patrick Pillay.
Session prize went to Johan du Preez, Carol Scott and Denny Watson.
Lucky draw was won by Dave Campbell.
