Sensational striking in T20 finals
There was some excellent sportsmanship shown on the day.
Runs flowed and the ball turned on finals day of the Southern KZN Summer T20.
Ashley Lombard showed he is the best batsman in the region with a crushing 71 not out for Port Shepstone Country Club against Legends at Southcity.
With the Country Club top order firing, Legends were in trouble and struggled to stem the flow.
However, they did battle back bravely through Abdullah Dhudhat and Sahal Mansoor, before spinner Gershion Lawrence stopped them dead in their tracks with yet another miserly effort.
There doesn’t appear to be any bowler anywhere who hates conceding runs as much as him.
In the end, Port Shepstone CC won the Division 1 final quite comfortably, by 45 runs.
At Sheppie High, Punjab XI proved too strong for Crusaders and won the Division 2 final by 85 runs.
The closest match was in the Division 3 final between Vikings B and Challengers XI, both teams fielding quite a few youngsters, three still in Grade 7 for Challengers.
Teenager Leon de Kock played the innings of his life with some powerful strikes en route to 80 to set up the Vikings, and André Ellapen’s brave, limping reply of 59 was not quite enough.
Leg-spinner Jayden Derksen (Grade 8), brought into the attack quite late, prevented any late rally from Challengers with some excellent bowling.
Vikings ended up winners by 27 runs.
The next league, which will be a 30 over format, is due to start on January 11.
