Surfers ‘Super Stoked’ as Chris Bertish visits coast
His latest book, 'Super Stoked!' is a follow up to his first 'Stoked', released in 2016.
It takes a certain amount of courage to grab a surfboard and take on the waves, even on a fairly calm day.
Local surfers and those who are part of the Genesis Wave of Hope surfing ministry know that.
But what Chris Bertish does boggles the mind. The kind of waves he has ridden takes surfing to a whole new level and have seen him gain global recognition.
So, to have him as a guest at Norwegian Settlers Church recently was something special.
Chris spent time with the surfers during the day and in the evening gave a short talk, followed by a Q & A session and then the opportunity for book signings.
He is more than just a surfer though, and also plays a role as an ocean-pioneer, environmental activist, motivational speaker and author.
His latest book, ‘Super Stoked!’ is a follow up to his first ‘Stoked’, released in 2016.
Some of his highlights include winning the title of Mavericks Big Wave Invitational champion – one of the most dangerous events in big-wave surfing.
Yet, perhaps his most extraordinary feat came in 2017, when after five years of preparation he completed the first ever solo, unsupported, stand-up-paddleboard (SUP) crossing of the Atlantic Ocean – a 7 500 km, 93-day journey from Morocco to Antigua aboard a custom-built craft.
Chris channels his experiences into globally sought-after keynote speeches, books and films.
Using ‘Dream It, See It, Believe It, Achieve It’ as his mantra, he motivates individuals and organisations to push boundaries, redefine what’s possible and embrace fear as a catalyst for growth.
