South Coast fishing: Tuna on the bite

It was prime deep sea conditions for tuna over the festive period.

Festive season fishing offered great opportunities for both surf and deep sea fishing.

Those that fished off the rocks and surf enjoyed shad catches from Banana Beach to Margate Pier. Anglers reported that good-size shad were on the bite on most days. Bream was also caught at certain spots. A 21kg giant trevally was caught at Margate Pier last Monday

Zelmarie Koekemoer caught this 13kg yellowfin tuna from Sensational Neptune recently.

Local fishing guru Stompie Koekemoer from KZN Fishing Guides said popular fishing spots didn’t disappoint, with locals and visitors enjoying the general summer fishing. “On the deep sea side, lots of tuna were caught and the coast was abuzz with visitors enjoying deep sea fishing.”

Remember, responsible fishing is keeping the shoreline as clean as possible and abiding by the bag limits.
