Junior angler nets major fly fishing awards
It has been aptly described as the 'gentle sport'.
For the South Coast Fly Anglers, 2025 proved to be the year of the youth with junior member Reagan Volschenk deservedly scooping a bucket full of awards at the club’s recent annual prizegiving. Veteran member Neil Scott received four awards.
The event was hosted, yet again, by Stephen and Olga Brand at their home, Red Rhyno farm near Trafalgar.
The SCFA is a relatively small but active fly fishing club, with members in their teens to late 80s, from all backgrounds and abilities.
What they all share is a love for the ‘gentle sport’ of casting and presenting a fly.
Monthly activities include a meeting at the Umtentweni Tennis Club on the last Thursday of the month; one salt water and one fresh water fishing outing; a fly tying evening where instruction is given on tying the salt and fresh water fly of the month.
Outings to various salt and fresh water venues are also frequently made, generally in KZN but as far afield as the Richtersveld in the Northern Cape on the world class Orange River.
Sincere thanks were extended to the generous sponsors.
Awards are only made for fish caught on a fly presented using a flyrod.
