Teen crowned champ at Port Shepstone Country Club
The weather was pretty good for the most part.
Cameron Olivant has only recently turned 17 but somehow it seemed a long time coming for him to finally win the strokeplay club championships at Port Shepstone Country Club.
He did so last weekend, on scores of 76 and 71 as breezy conditions and tricky pin placements made scoring challenging.
Cameron was delighted with the win, despite his ultra cautious finish where he bogeyed the 16th and 17th holes to avoid any chance of going in the water, and popped a 4-iron off the tee on the 18th to stay away from the mangroves and cricket field.

“I was a bietjie nervous, I won’t lie,” he laughed afterwards, delighted with the win.
He ended up winning by three from Francois du Toit who had 74 and 76.
Cameron now joins his esteemed father Gareth on the strokeplay honours board.
Gareth won 20 years ago (is it really that long?) seeing off strong challenges from Matthew Vancoillie and Ryno van Niekerk at the time.
Cameron has won the matchplay, as has Gareth, so they have ticked all those boxes.
Francois had to settle for the A-division trophy, while the B-division was won by Warren Jennings on gross of 169 over two rounds, and the C-division by Michael du Toit on 81 points.
Morris Moodley won best senior and best nett.
In the ladies section there were no surprises, with Kim Strauss winning by miles again. She shot 77 and 72.
Division winners were Kiara Naicker (silver), Zanté du Toit (bronze) and Catherine Albertyn (copper).
