Young golfer shines at KZN Open
Cameron Olivant (17) finished 14th at the province's premier event.
Cameron Olivant may have been disappointed with his finish at the KZN Open, but he can still hold his head high after some superb golf.
The 17 year-old from Port Shepstone CC finished 14th at the province’s premier event, held at the demanding Prince’s Grant layout in windy conditions.
He started well, with two rounds of 73, then got even better with a two under par 70 in round three. He had climbed into the top 10, but in his final round he bogeyed the 16th and double bogeyed the par five 18th to drop down to a tie for 14th place on +6.
This strong showing, where he was fourth best of the KZN players, will see him jump up the order of merit rankings.
The tournament was won by Juan Coetzee from Irene CC on a score of -6.
Earlier in the week he took part in the Prince’s Grant Invitational, also played over four rounds.
In this event he had scores of 82, 76, 75 and 78. This didn’t count for any ranking points, but the experience would have done him good.
