Scottburgh’s Leah Lepront is making international waves once again through her selection to represent South Africa at the 2026 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in Surf City, El Salvador in September.

“I am incredibly proud and excited to announce that I have been selected for the second time to represent South Africa,” said Lepront.

“This is a significant achievement as I am one of only three U16 girls selected to represent the country at this prestigious international event.”

The 2026 junior team is made up of three U16 girls, three U16 boys, three U18 girls and three U18 boys; and the squad includes a further three U16 girls and three U16 boys and three U18 girls and three U18 boys all of whom are non-travelling reserves.

These 24 surfers will participate in two high performance training camps in Ballito in July and East London in August.

The ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in El Salvador will run from September 4 to 13. The training camps will help to better prepare the surfers for the championships, and provide them with the opportunity to develop their technical skills, competitive strategies, physical conditioning and team culture in a focused environment.

While heading to the championships is an exciting opportunity and a dream come true for Lepront, it does comes with substantial costs.

“The total amount required for travel, accommodation and participation is about R70 000,” explained Lepront.

“I would be grateful for any contribution, no matter how small, to help me reach my goal and proudly represent South Africa on the world stage.”
