Track Torque: Lewis Hamilton sets Spanish streets alive

He proved to his fans that he still has what it takes.

There was huge enthusiasm for Lewis Hamilton’s win at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona last Sunday.

Hamilton (Ferrari) is still a man with tremendous talent and is on a mission to do better, once again, after a long drought.

He proved to his fans that he still has what it takes.

This could be a turn in fortunes for him and Ferrari as both he and Charles Leclerc have two of the best cars in the pack.

Leclerc was the unluckiest man from Maranello as he retired after the second of two accidents in one weekend.

Mercedes, despite George Russell’s well driven second position, were sad to lose their teenage marvel Kimi Antonelli four laps from the end due to battery failure.

Lando Norris (McLaren) capitalised on the situation and successfully drove to a solid third place podium finish.

At the time of going to press there were disputes regarding third to seventh places due to penalty infringements.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was next up in fourth while Oscar Piastri (McLaren) was fifth.

The second Red Bull of Isack Hadjar finished sixth.

Depending on the above mentioned disputes, Pierre Gasly who was placed seventh could be moved up to third.

All of this, in my opinion, should have been resolved before the end of the race.

It is most unsatisfactory to have chequered flag finished results taken away after the race.

This happened to Hadjar as well after his Monaco podium, when he was demoted to fourth.

To add insult to injury, Hadjar’s trophy, which had to be handed back, had been ‘lost’.

The two Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad were eighth and ninth respectively, while Franco Colapinto was 10th in his Alpine Mercedes.

It was the first all British podium result since 1968, when Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart and John Surtees took the top three places.

But the messy decisions caused by incorrect penalties have spoilt my enthusiasm for the race.

I do hope that the question of penalties and post race result changes is resolved as soon as possible. It is not becoming of Formula One.
