Podium finish for Umkomaas ice skater
In the Bronze boys section, ages 9-11, Tate Wilson placed first.
The KZN Provincial Figure Skating Championships was a huge success and a major milestone for the sport in the area.
The event took place at the Galleria Ice Rink recently, where 19 athletes competed, including talented Tate Wilson of Umkomaas.
This year’s event saw more than twice the number of competitors compared to 2025.
This increase shows that South African Figure Skating Association KZN’s hard work to build up the sport in the province is paying off. What makes all the challenges worth it, is seeing their skaters improving.
They have competitions that help skaters at every level.
The bronze section is a great way for skaters to get a feel for what it’s like to compete in a big championship, but in a supportive environment. One of the best things about this section is that skaters don’t need to have passed all their level tests to take part.
On the other hand, the competitive sections are geared towards more advanced skaters who have already mastered certain technical elements and have passed specific level tests. Then there’s the championship section, which is the most challenging of all. To qualify for this, skaters need to have achieved certain minimum scores, as well as passed their levels and met specific technical requirements.
Results for the provincial championships are as follows:
Bronze girls 8 and under – Chelsey Randall (1st) and Shreya Singh (2nd).
