Human rights lawyer invited to lunch

Christopher Nicholson is the author of four books.

LOOK forward to a stimulating talk and plenty of food for thought at the September Tuesday Rostrum lunch at Mbango on September 10 at 12.15pm.

Guest speaker will be human rights lawyer, author and High Court judge Christopher Nicholson, who has recently published his fourth book. ‘One Hand Washes the Other’ (Arena books).

Christopher has lived all his 68 years in KwaZulu-Natal. As a human rights lawyer, he assisted many victims of apartheid. After majority rule was won in 1994, he received two awards for this work. In 1995, he was appointed a High Court judge.

His first two books, ‘Permanent Removal: Who Killed the Cradock Four’, and ‘Papwa Sewgolum: From Pariah to Legend’, were both nominated for the prestigious Alan Paton Prize for non-fiction. They were followed by his intriguing ‘Richard and Adolph: Did Richard Wagner incite Adolph Hitler to commit the Holocaust?’.

‘One Hand Washes the Other’ is his first work of fiction and copies of this book will be on sale at the lunch. On the surface a mystery thriller, it is also an in-depth study of contemporary South Africa with its existing fraught cultural and racial relationships.

To book for the lunch and talk contact Jenny Robertson at 039 6823097. Lunch is R110 for members and R180 for guests. The women’s club always welcomes guests, both male and female, as well as new members. The annual affiliation fee is R495.
