Traditional dancers have the right moves

Dancers from the Ugu District are hoping to make it through to the next round of the contest.

EPISODE six of the talent show, Ongoti Bokugida was filmed in Oribi Gorge recently.

The show is produced by 1 KZN TV and Urban Brew Studios and facilitated by the South Coast based film production company, Go 2 Films.

1 KZN TV travelled all over KwaZulu-Natal, choosing six traditional Zulu dancing groups from each area, including the Ugu District, to compete at various locations around the province.

The six groups chosen from the Ugu District were Umzini Arts Production from Umdoni, Amantomnazane Asemgudlwa from Ezinqoleni, Amayukani from Ezinqoleni, Amathole Amnnyoma from Umzumbe, Msweswe from Ezinqoleni, and Phuza Emthonjeni from Ezinqoleni.

One or two of six groups will advance to the semi-final knockout stages, to be held at Shaka Land. The top three groups in KwaZulu-Natal will the advance to the finals in Nyokeni.

Here the groups will get a rare chance to dance before King Goodwill Zwelithini. The king, together with the judges, will then decide who will be crowned KwaZulu-Natal’s best traditional Zulu dance group.

Episode one of Ongoti Bokugida, which is broadcast on channel 261, was first aired on September 7 and can be viewed every Saturday at 6pm.
