Who will police the police?

We don't need policemen who think they are above the law.

SOUTH Coasters are outraged by the bizarre shooting of a Port Shepstone restaurant owner.

As the chilling details of Leanne Douglas’s death at the hands of four policemen emerged, the question everyone asked was why she was shot at off the road.

No one can comprehend what threat a woman in a motor car posed.

They (the police officers) claim she had ignored a traffic light. How does such a minor violation warrant a car chase and firing shots at the driver?

And what calibre of policemen were they to have felt threatened by a woman?

Even worse is that they tried to cover up her death.

A tow truck driver listened to the chase play out on his two-way radio.

He told a Durban newspaper that he suspected something was wrong when he heard the car had crashed and the driver was dead. He went to investigate the crash site where he saw that the car’s tyres had been shot out and the vehicle was riddled with bullet holes.

The trucker raised the alarm and insisted that detectives from Port Shepstone investigate. He said he was the only one to have marked the accident scene.

We don’t need policemen who think they are above the law.

Such cowardly officers tarnish those who are dedicated members of the force.

There can be no cover-up – those who are responsible must face up to their crime.
