Fokofpolisiekar launches new single
Taxi Violence has announced plans for a new album, while Fokofpolisiekar has released a single for the first time since 2012.
TAXI Violence are in the middle of their 10th anniversary year, and are going back to the studio in April to record their follow up to Soul Shake – which is scheduled to be released in September. The Cape rockers are also playing at RAMfest 2014 on both the Cape Town and Johannesburg legs of the tour. They will be on stage on Saturday in the Cape, while on Friday they will be playing to the Johannesburg crowd.
Meanwhile, Fokofpolisiekar have announced the launch of their new single Paranoia. It is their first release since Dagdronk from the collaboration album VanFokKingTasties in 2012. Lead signer Francois Van Coke believes this is one of the controversial rockers ‘greatest songs to date,’ while rhythm guitarist Hunter Kennedy said: “We’ve spent our careers breaking down previously held opinions and stereotypes of Afrikaners to establish a new identity. That identity is not fully formed yet and I think a big part of forming that identity will be for Afrikaners to accept their ‘Africanness’.
“Afrikaners are the ones alienating themselves. Paranoia is one of the side-effects of not understanding who you are and where you fit in.” The band will be working on new material this year, with an eye to producing the first album since the Antibiotika EP in 2008.
Bassist Wynand Myburgh said: ” We have been talking about writing new material forever. It’s difficult to fit it into everyone’s extremely busy schedules. “We finally managed to finish off this song, I think it is fresh and I could not
have imagined it any different or better. I am a fan of this song; just as I was when we started writing the first FPK stuff in 2003.” Paranoia can be downloaded free of charge from www.fokofpolisiekar.co.za
