System will cut out corruption

The public will be able to check what tenders are available and make a bid for them.

REFORMS to cut down on corruption and fraud at local municipalities have been promised many times before.

But the implementation of electronic procurement systems has been delayed because of numerous appeals against them.

However, from next month a new hi-tech system will be implemented across KwaZulu-Natal to root out fraud and corruption in the chain management system.

This new system will, according to a spokesman from the provincial Treasury department, make it harder for officials to tamper with tenders.

This appears to be a good move as it will also enable the public to check what tenders are available and make a bid for them.

Hopefully this will put an end to officials being able to change numbers of tenders which have been submitted by ‘friends or associates’.

The programme will also be linked to Sars.
