Middleton’s case ready for trial

No evidence found on Middleton's computers.

WITH the ‘final discovery’ now complete, the former senior officer Superintendent Dave Middleton is expected to appear for trial on July 28.

The former senior officer from Hibiscus Coast Protection Services appeared in the Port Shepstone Regional court earlier today (Friday).

The state provided the charge sheet and all evidence in the matter to Middleton’s defence attorney, Xolile Ntshulana.

Senior Magistrate Johan Bester said that he didn’t want Middleton to be ‘ambushed by evidence not disclosed to him’ before going to trial.

Attorney Ntshulana asked if the two laptops and a computer confiscated from Middleton’s home after his arrest could be returned before June 20. He confirmed that no evidence was found on the computers, and these have been abandoned for trial.

Supt Middleton faces 15 charges, including two counts of rape, various counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual grooming of a child, display and exposure of child pornography and intimidation.

He has been employed at the municipality for 20 years.
