Editor's note

Lest we forget

There was no local service or ceremony.

ONE hundred years ago World War I began. It was finally called off on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

All over the world Armistice Day was commemorated, not only to honour those who fought in that war but all those who have died in armed conflict.

On the South Coast remembrance services were held last Sunday and on Tuesday this week.

But it would appear that our local leaders have forgotten about our soldiers, whether they fought in conventional armies or as freedom fighters.

There was no official municipal service or wreath laying ceremony. Mayors and councillors were conspicuous by their absence. That is no way to treat our war veterans.
