International artist visits our town
Dr Prasad is an internationally renowned folk singer and an expert on the ethereal folk sounds of Bihar.
THE Port Shepstone public had an opportunity to enjoy a performance by Dr Pushpa Prasad and her troupe at Port Shepstone Civic Centre last Wednesday.
It was organised by the Port Shepstone Hindu Cultural Federation, in conjunction with the Indian Consulate.
Dr Prasad is an internationally renowned folk singer and an expert on the ethereal folk sounds of Bihar.
She is a multifaceted artist who has engrossed all her energies in the preservation and promotion of folk culture for the past 25 years.
A teacher by profession, she has excelled in the field of music and dance and reached out to the masses continuously.
With a novel concept to make the rural folk community self-dependent she has evolved vocational training programmes for them and has been successfully giving her contribution.
Coming from a orthodox Brahmin family she braved all odds to pursue her dreams and strongly feels for the empowerment of women and children.
She has passed on the legacy to her family where her daughters Nimisha and Piyusha Shankar are the lead singers of the band.
Her eldest daughter and disciple Sumisha Shankar is an army officer and is actively involved in the backstage management of her venture.
